THE
GQH RANCH
Grabski
Quarter Horses is focused on producing a very select group of highly
talented western pleasure futurity prospects each year. Prospects are
offered for sale as two and three year olds, after they have demonstrated
their level of talent under saddle.
Where
GQH Prospects Come From
In
the fall of each year, we evaluate several hundred promising western
pleasure prospects from leading western pleasure breeders located across
the country. In addition, several high quality GQH broodmares are bred
to leading stallions each year.
How
We Select GQH Prospects
After
careful evaluation of structural conformation, movement, pedigree and
disposition, several are chosen to begin their journey as a GQH futurity
prospect. We place a very high degree of emphasis on pedigree for maximum
predictability and future sale-ability. FIRST & FOREMOST, however,
our prospects must possess the conformation that will allow them to
endure a demanding show career while staying sound. Three of our four
two year-olds in 2001 were out of CONGRESS CHAMPION MARES. The line-up
for 2002 includes two- two-year olds out of CONGRESS CHAMPION MARES
and one WORLD CHAMPION sibling. The line-up for 2003 is starting to
take shape and will prove to be even more powerful. Additionally, prospects
are ALL sired by highly proven CONGRESS & WORLD CHAMPION producing
stallions that are in high demand today.
How
We Prepare GQH Prospects
You
can expect your GQH prospect to have had a wide range of training and
exposure to prepare them for competition. Beginning at an early age,
the prospects are ponyed, hobbled, ground tied, sacked, exposed to cattle
and many other daily routines such as clipping and bathing. We feel
that getting this out of the way early allows the prospect to better
focus when the real work begins under saddle, with far less stress.
Daily
training under saddle begins in the two-year-old year. Prospects begin
with a very slow but consistent and steady routine that ramps-up to
futurity day. Extreme care is taken to insure that the prospect remains
comfortable and sound both mentally and physically and it is not uncommon
to hold the prospect back from competition until his or her three-year-old
year.
Most
all of the training is done at home on the GQH ranch. However, our philosophy
and strategy is to work closely with several highly respected horseman
and trainers to maximize the potential of each and every GQH prospect.
